Will the pereneal nerve in my leg recover?

had a m/c accident and got a bang on the side of the knee leaving me with foot drop(have no movement in the foot causing it just to hang down) and a 50% numbness from the kneecap down...the doctor says the nerve will recover but it will take time but i am not sure if hes just bullshitting me.....its been 3 months and no sign of any improvement.......anyone had a similar experience?
